Clinical Applications of Finacea cream

Finacea cream (Azelaic acid 15%) has a wide range of clinical applications. Such as acne, rosacea, melasma, and malignant lentigo.

Acne

Characteristics:
Mainly affects areas with abundant sebaceous glands such as the face, back, and chest, most commonly during adolescence. The condition involves abnormal keratinization of pilosebaceous ducts, inflammatory responses, and bacterial activity (Propionibacterium acnes), leading to chronic inflammation and lesions.

Treatment:
Azelaic acid inhibits Propionibacterium acnes, has anti-inflammatory effects, and mildly exfoliates the skin. It is a second-line topical treatment for mild to moderate acne, used twice daily. Results are typically seen after four weeks, with treatment lasting about six months. According to the American Academy of Dermatology guidelines, azelaic acid is recommended for acne treatment with an A-level strength of evidence and a high-grade recommendation.

Rosacea

Characteristics:
Mainly presents as persistent redness in the central facial area, accompanied by telangiectasia, papules, pustules, and burning or itching sensations. It is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease of uncertain etiology, primarily seen in individuals with fair skin.

Treatment:
Azelaic acid reduces inflammatory lesions and erythema by inhibiting reactive oxygen species and keratinization processes. It helps improve papules, pustules, and erythema associated with rosacea. Common concentrations are 10%, 15%, or 20% in creams or gels, applied twice daily.

Melasma

Characteristics:
Appears as irregularly shaped patches of pigmentation on the face. These patches vary in size and are often brown or tan in color. The condition has a complex etiology and is prone to recurrence.

Treatment:
Azelaic acid can inhibit melanin production by affecting tyrosinase activity, reducing hyperpigmentation. Concentrations of 15%-20% are typically used. It is applied twice daily for about six months and is mainly used for treating epidermal melasma.

Malignant Lentigo

Characteristics:
This condition features dark patches, uneven pigmentation, or mottled discoloration, primarily on sun-exposed areas like the face, arms, and shoulders. Lesions are often irregular in shape. Some cases may involve dermal pigmentation.

Treatment:
Azelaic acid helps improve abnormal pigmentation by promoting the renewal of epidermal keratinocytes and increasing cellular turnover. It reduces discoloration and brightens the skin. Studies have shown that azelaic acid, used for over five years, can achieve significant clearance in patients with malignant lentigo and help maintain results.

What Our Customer Said

finacea cream reviews

It really transforms oily skin into dry skin…

This Finacea azelaic acid product is simply amazing (highly recommended!). Right now, as I touch my refreshed and dry face, I’m so happy to share this with everyone.

If your skin isn’t extremely sensitive (like turning red at the slightest touch) and you struggle with oily acne-prone skin or seborrheic dermatitis, you should definitely give this a chance—and some time!

When I first started using it, I only noticed reduced oiliness, but my acne still appeared as usual. However, after about 16 days (I specifically checked my purchase records), I suddenly realized that there were no more inflamed pimples on my face—only some easily manageable closed comedones. My skin became much smoother, and even the acne scars had faded a little!

One final tip: Apply eye cream as the very first step. If you apply it after using azelaic acid, the skin around your eyes might react unless you wash your hands thoroughly before applying the eye cream.

(Additional thoughts on its texture: It’s incredibly lightweight and refreshing. After absorption, it feels like nothing on the skin. Among all the azelaic acid products I’ve tried, this one has the best skin feel.)

The results are really obvious! It works even better than the 20% azelaic acid product I used from India before. I started using it the night before last, and I’ve only used it three times so far. This morning, I woke up and noticed a visible improvement—my skin has become much smoother.

The small white bumps I could see on my chin are also significantly reduced. I have excessive oil secretion and, although I don’t get much acne anymore in recent years, I do get lots of milia. I also tend to pick at them, which easily leaves marks, resulting in lots of acne scars on my face.

The Indian product I used previously had some effect, but I stopped using it because I developed perioral dermatitis. Recently, my skin has been in poor condition. While washing my face, I could feel a lot of milia on my forehead, which would come out as small yellow bumps when squeezed. My cheeks and nose also had soft, stringy milia.

I decided to try Finacea’s azelaic acid without high expectations (as a last resort). But this morning, I noticed a real improvement. My face didn’t get oily overnight, and my skin condition has visibly improved. Even the red marks on my face aren’t as red anymore. After washing my face, some milia easily came out with a gentle squeeze. This product seems very effective for blackheads, acne, closed comedones, and acne scars.

Australian Finacea 15% Azelaic Acid
This product is probably the most effective for thick, oily skin. It has excellent penetration and a nice texture, with a lotion-like consistency. At first, it can feel very itchy. For sensitive and dry skin like mine, I only use it on the T-zone, and even then, just a thin layer for short periods of time. The skin feels polished afterward, but it can be very irritating on already sensitive areas. It’s suitable for rosacea, oily skin control, and areas with clusters of closed comedones. I like it but can’t use it too frequently.
Azelaic Acid 20% by Skinoren
The texture is somewhere between a cream and a lotion, making it ideal for neutral or sensitive dry skin to control oil in the T-zone. The effect on acne scars is slower, but it’s not very irritating. I like it.

I’m on my fifth tube now. I saw on Reddit that some people experienced breakouts or closed comedones after using this, but I haven’t. Occasionally, I get one or two pimples during my menstrual period, but this product clears them up quickly and fades the marks. I’ve been using it every morning and night consistently, and I haven’t encountered such issues.

I previously used retinoic acid, and products like these acids can be a bit irritating, so those with sensitive skin should be cautious. If you experience widespread breakouts, I suggest you stop using it—it might indicate that your skin barrier is damaged. When I used retinoic acid before, I would only apply it once a week and always with a repair cream as a base. Later, I felt that azelaic acid was less irritating than retinoic acid, so I switched to using this product regularly.

Many people say applying it directly works better, but most might not tolerate it. I’ve been using this for a long time now, and I always apply a repair cream first as a base. This is not something you can rush—find the method that works for you, and I believe it will be effective.

I swear by Finacea Azelaic Acid—I’ll use it for life!

My skin type: Combination-oily skin with seborrheic dermatitis causing redness around the nose, and occasional pimples.

My goal: To reduce redness around the nose and fade acne marks.

Finacea has delivered! I’ve already finished one tube, and I’m nearly done with two more. Initially, you need to build tolerance. When I first started, it caused slight stinging and itching after application. However, once my skin adapted, I could use it on bare skin without any discomfort. Now, I use it all over my face before bed every night. Combining azelaic acid with retinol has truly made my skin more radiant!

The redness around my nose caused by seborrheic dermatitis has also improved significantly. I absolutely love this product—so much that I stock up on a new tube before finishing the current one!

Finacea is an amazing little gem!

Closed comedones and acne on my forehead and chin have disappeared. My skin is now smooth, refined, and non-greasy. It’s better than retinoic acid—it controls oil and isn’t oily itself. Initially, it caused some stinging and itching when applied, but that went away quickly. After using it for nearly a month, I no longer feel any discomfort, and there’s no need to avoid sunlight while using it. It’s lightweight, matte, and perfect for someone like me who hates greasy ointments, which seem to worsen acne.

Finacea is effective against both fresh red acne marks and stubborn nodular acne. I’ve been using it generously, applying it almost all over my face where I have closed comedones or acne. For nodular acne, I apply a thick layer directly on the spot, and by the next morning, the swelling reduces significantly! Peeling does occur, but that’s expected.

Nodular acne is the hardest to treat, but Finacea has helped a lot. It has also significantly improved the appearance of red acne marks.
